My daily reminder and log for doing five things each day that keep me growing. Little or big, insignificant or huge, this is the stuff moving me forward. Today, I want to be a little better than I was yesterday. Tomorrow, I want to be even better.

1. Cared About What I Wore to Work
I work in a very casual office, the ambient temperature in which is the approximate equivalent to that of a meat locker. I have to bundle up in a hoodie and/or sweater, wear fingerless gloves, and use an electric blanket on my lap (I wish I was kidding). Needless to say, knowing that I'm going to be bundled up like a snowboarder anyway, it's really easy to get sucked into wearing a ponytail, jeans, and a tee-shirt every day. But since I got my super chic haircut this weekend, I decided to try to look cuter than usual. That's right: I put on makeup. I also put together this snappy outfit on Polyvore and tried to recreate it with items in my own closet.

2. Tea at Lunch
I went with the girls to Starbucks on our lunch break. Normally, I get a tall skinny mocha, but even that has about 110 calories, caffeine, and sugar. So, today, I just got a tall passion tea, unsweetened. Delicious and hydrating. And we won't dwell on the two cups of coffee I had back at the office...

3. Spaced Out My Fruit Consumption
I read this article the other day that says you shouldn't eat fruit within a couple hours of eating other foods because it can cause digestion issues. This actually seems like a pretty tedious and unrealistic routine to get into, but I attempted it today. We'll see if I can keep it up.

4. Filled Up on a Healthy Smoothie
We had pizza for dinner. I'm trying to make healthier alterations to our normal routine because I think it's more realistic and easier to maintain. So instead of saying no to pizza, I had one piece and filled up on a smoothie made with a banana, almond milk, and chia seeds beforehand. Oh, and I remained meatless.

5. Trip to Lowe's for Laundry Room Trim
We went to Lowe's and picked up the top and corner molding we're going to use in the laundry room! Yay!

1. Overnight Oats for Breakfast
When I remember to make it the night before, I love to eat Overnight Oats for breakfast. They are a delicious nutritional powerhouse and are so much more satisfying than cereal. Check out what kinds of add-ins I use to fix mine at the bottom of this post.

2. Morning Prayer on the Car Ride
I have a loooong commute to work. Three days a week, Big Tex and I carpool, which I love. The other two days I'm on my own and I try to make the ride a pleasant one. When I get off the highway, and I have about 10 minutes left in my drive, I like to say a prayer and get my head in a calm, positive, and grateful place for the day. Sometimes I get caught up in the music or talk shows and I forget to get centered with my prayer, but I always feel better when I do. Today, I ended my ride and started my work day on a good note with a short prayer.

3. Mailed Some Important Packages
I have a tendency to put off mailing packages til the last minute because I don't like going to the P.O. But at lunch today, I mailed my wonderful mom's birthday gift, as well as a baby gift for our dear friends who just had a sweet baby girl.

4. Read (Almost!) a Chapter from Of Mice and Men
I like mind candy books. Ok, I love them. But I kind of miss my school days when I was forced to read a classic novel that I was convinced would be boring, and then actually turned out to be unforgettable (A Tale of Two Cities, Wuthering Heights). So I'm reading one of Big Tex's favorite books: Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. I've been hesitant about this particular book because I don't like bleak stories. This book has some gut-wrenching scenes, but I'm also seeing that George's relationship to Lenny subtly illustrates the human ability to love (maybe even unknowingly) in an imperfect, but still beautiful way.

5. Yoga!
Big Tex and I went to yoga tonight and it was wonderful! I'm feeling stronger and more limber already :-)
